PR! Fabulous, Strong, Vivid!

My favorite and only reality TV show has begun a new season again.  Project Runway. Fashion designers square off to create one-of-a-kind runway looks in an extremely short amount of time with limited materials.  Their creations are fashion words, Fabulous, Strong, Vivid!  If you have a little fashion designer at home and they need to start to hone their skills-Bare Knuckle Arts is offering a Beginning Sewing Class starting Sept. 18th.

The Lapham Buildementary Outdoor Sculptures have moved to the Yaharra Parkway for the rest of the summer.  Check them out!!!

Lapham Buildementary: Outdoor Sculptures by Kids was a 12-week exploration of public art and sculpture in an after-school club. Led by artist and art educator Amy Mietzel (owner of Bare Knuckles Arts), 1st and 2nd Grade Lapham students will consider local examples of public art, work with a few guest artists, and design and build sculptures in small groups. The students' work-in-progress will be on display during Gallery Night at Bare Knuckle Arts on Winnebago Street on Friday, May 5th and finished works will be displayed along the Yahara River in the summer.  This amazing opportunity is funded by a grant from the Madison Arts Commission with support from the Marquette Neighborhood Association, the Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood Association, and the Lapham Parent Teacher Group. Writer and organizer of this project is Jessica Becker an arts advocate for the city of Madison who has created several inspiring projects within the city of Madison including Reflections from the Banks of the Yaharra River and Reynold Park Projects.  Read more about these successes on her blog Between Two Lakes.

Working with Awesome Artistic Talented Teens at Bayview!

I've been working this spring and summer with an awesome artistic talented teen from Bayview Community.  The Bayview peeps wrote a grant to the Madison Arts Commission based on gardening, art, murals, and mentoring.  The young artist Tou is beyond his years and heading to Madison College this next fall.  We spent the spring interviewing and working with three different groups of people at Bayview.  We interviewed the young, the old, and teens about the strong traditions of gardening in their lives.   From these interviews we designed this image incorporating all their ideas.  This final image created by Tou will be painted some time this fall at Bayview.  Young people doing amazing things gives us hope for the arts in our world!!!
